This chapter provides the steps to:
Map a proxy pool to your NAS device
Unmap proxy pool from your NAS device
Delete a NAS proxy from the pool
Determine NAS proxy version
You can determine the version of the NAS proxy that is currently running on your servers. Each Druva release comes with new features and enhancements, and to use these features, you must have the latest version of the NAS proxy. You can obtain the version details of the NAS proxy from the Management Console.
Ensure that you have the latest version of NAS proxy installed on your servers.
To determine the NAS proxy version:
Log in to the Management Console.
Select the workload from the Protect menu. Note that if the All Organizations menu is enabled, you have to first select an organization that has your NAS device and then select the workload.
In the device-specific navigation pane on the left, click All Backup Proxies Pool. Click the Backup Proxies tab in the right pane. The right pane lists all the proxies in the Backup Proxy Pool. The Client Version column lists the NAS proxy version.
Alternatively, select the device and click Mapped Proxy Pools in the left pane. Click the Backup Proxy Pool. You can view the NAS proxy version details on the Pool Details page.
Latest: The current version is the latest available version that is available.
Upgradable: The current version is upgradable.
Upgrade scheduled: An upgrade is in progress.
Not upgradable: The current version cannot be upgraded to the latest version through the Management Console.
Unmap a backup proxy pool from a NAS device
Unmapping a backup proxy pool from a NAS device detaches the proxy pool from the device. If a proxy pool is unmapped from a NAS device, Druva does not use the proxies in the pool to perform backups and restores of the NAS share from the NAS device.
Before a backup proxy pool can be unmapped, all the associated backup sets must either be mapped to another backup proxy pool or deleted. A backup proxy pool with associated backup sets cannot be unmapped. For more information on editing a backup set to map the backup sets to an alternative backup proxy pool, see Edit a backup set.
The last backup proxy pool mapped to a NAS device cannot be unmapped. One or more backup proxy pools must always remain mapped to a NAS device.
Log in to the Management Console.
Select the workload from the Protect menu. Note that if the All Organizations menu is enabled, you have to first select an organization that has your NAS device and then select the workload.
In the device-specific navigation pane on the left, select the NAS device.
In the device-specific navigation pane on the left, select Mapped Pools. The right pane lists all the backup proxy pools mapped to the selected NAS device.
Select the backup proxy pool and then click Unmap.
The following table describes the scenarios while unmapping a proxy pool.
Action | Associated backup set/deleted backup sets | Action allowed? |
Unmap a pool | Yes | No |
Unmap a pool | No | Yes |
Delete a NAS proxy from the pool
To delete a NAS proxy, ensure that:
It is not the last Windows proxy in the pool if the pool is assigned to an SMB share backup set.
It is not the last Linux proxy in the pool if the pool is assigned to an NFS share backup set.
It is not the last proxy in the pool, and the pool is attached to the NAS device, even if no backup set is mapped.
To delete a NAS proxy:
Login to the Management Console.
Select the workload from the Protect menu. Note that if the All Organizations menu is enabled, you have to first select an organization that has your NAS device and then select the workload.
You can delete NAS proxies in three ways:
In the navigation pane on the left, click All Backup Proxy Pools.
In the navigation pane on the left, click All Backup Proxy Pools.
Select a device and then click Mapped Proxy Pools. Click the backup proxy pool that contains the backup proxies.
In the Pool Details tab, select one or more NAS proxies in the Backup Proxies section. Click the three dots, and then click Delete.
📝 Note
If the associated backup proxy pool is mapped to the SMB/NFS backup set, it requires at least one Windows/Linux proxy in the pool. In that case, the backup proxy cannot be deleted.
The following table describes the scenarios while deleting a proxy.
Action | Proxy Pool mapped to device? | Proxy Pool mapped to backup set? | Count of OS-specific proxies in the pool | Result |
Delete a Windows proxy | Yes | Yes, for SMB share backup set | More than 1 | Proxy will be deleted |
Delete a Linux proxy | Yes | Yes, for NFS share backup set | More than 1 | Proxy will be deleted |
Delete a Windows proxy | Yes | Yes, for SMB share backup set | 1 | Proxy cannot be deleted |
Delete a Linux proxy | Yes | Yes, for NFS share backup set | 1 | Proxy cannot be deleted |
Delete a Windows/ Linux proxy | Yes | No | 1 | Proxy cannot be deleted |
Delete a Windows/ Linux proxy | No | No | 1 or more | Proxy will be deleted |
Map more proxy pools
You can create a backup proxy pool and map a device to it. However, the created pool must include the backup proxies. A pool cannot be selected or mapped to a device if it does not have any proxies.
For example, if you are trying to create a backup set on an SMB share, but the pool does not have a Windows proxy (count is 0), then the selection is grayed out. So you cannot back up the backup set.
To map proxy pool to your NAS device:
Log in to the Management Console.
Select the workload from the Protect menu. Note that if the All Organizations menu is enabled, you have to first select an organization that has your NAS device and then select the workload.
In the device-specific navigation pane on the left, select the NAS device.
In the device-specific navigation pane on the left, select Mapped Proxy Pools.
In the right pane, click Map Proxy Pools.
In the Map Proxy Pools dialog box, select the backup proxy pool that you want to map to the selected NAS device and then click Save.
📝 Note
The checkbox next to a backup proxy pool is disabled if the proxy pool is already mapped to the pool.
