Updated this week

❗ Important

This feature has limited availability. To know more about limited availability and sign up for this feature, contact your Account Manager.

After activating the NAS agent on the virtual machine, the next step is to add a NAS device and map it to a backup proxy pool.

Procedure

  1. Log in to the Management Console.

  2. The Get Started with NAS Data Protection page is displayed if no NAS devices have been added yet. On this page, click Add NAS device under Add a NAS device.

If NAS devices have already been configured, the Get Started page with NAS Data Protection is not available. To add additional NAS devices, click Add NAS Device.

  3. On the Add Device page, enter the following details:

Field

Description

Vendor

Select AWS S3 as the NAS vendor from the drop-down. The values are:

  • Dell EMC Isilon

  • Netapp

  • Hitachi Vantara (HNAS)

  • PureStorage FlashBlade NAS

  • Synology

  • Qnap

  • HPE Storeasy

  • Qumulo

  • Others

  • Azure Blob

πŸ“ Note

Make sure you attach Microsoft Entra ID role to the Azure VM instance that is running the NAS agent. For more information, see Roles and Permissions for Azure Blob.

IP/FQDN

Add the subscription ID of the resource that contains the storage accounts to be backed up.

Credentials

This field is not required and is disabled.

Display Name

Display name that will appear on the Management Console. It is just a label for Azure Blob vendor. You can provide any name.

Backup Poxy Pool Mapping

Map this device to a backup proxy pool containing Azure blob-supported agents (version 7.0.5-674361).

❗ Important

  • Virtual machines in the backup proxy pool must be from the same Azure subscription.

  • Virtual machines in the backup proxy pool must be from the same region as storage account that is configured for backup.

πŸ“ Note

If a virtual machine is not in the same region as the storage account, then data egress charges will be applicable.

πŸ“ Note

Azure Blob backups and restores are supported only for Ubuntu proxies.

Initially, all the proxies created will go to the Default Proxy Pool. You can move or switch them to another pool. For more information, see Change Backup Proxy Pool.

πŸ“ Note

Ensure that the pool used for Azure Blob data protection contains only Azure Blob-supported NAS agents.

If you have an older NAS agent running in your organization, perform the following steps:

  1. Create a new pool with the naming convention: <Azure_<region>_Pool>. For more information, see Create backup proxy pool for NAS.

  2. Switch the activated NAS Proxy to the newly created pool <Azure_<region>_Pool>. For more information, see Change Backup Proxy Pool.

  3. Select this pool for all the operations.

  4. Add Azure Blob as the NAS device. For more information, see Add a NAS device.

  5. Configure the backup set. For more information, see Configure the backup set.

On the Add Device page, click Save.

After the NAS device is successfully added, all the storage accounts inside the Azure Subscription will be discovered.
