Frequently Asked Questions about Data Lock for Microsoft 365

1. Which Druva licenses offer the Data Lock feature?

Data Lock is available by default for Elite and Enterprise customers.

2. Will enabling Data Lock impact the storage consumption of my data?

No, activating Data Lock in your backup policy does not affect your storage consumption.

3. Can I manually delete Data Lock-enabled backup sets and recovery points?

No. Once Data Lock is enabled for a backup set, neither the associated backup policy nor the backup set itself can be manually deleted. This immutability is a core aspect of the Data Lock feature.

4. My backup set is currently mapped to a Data Lock-enabled backup policy. Can I associate another Data Lock-enabled backup policy to the same backup set?

No, you cannot switch a backup set from one Data Lock-enabled backup policy to another Data Lock-enabled policy. However, you can change a backup set from a Data Lock-disabled backup policy to a Data Lock-enabled backup policy. For more detailed information, please consult the "change backup policy" point in the relevant "Consideration" documentation.

5. If I duplicate a Data Lock-enabled backup policy, will the Data Lock setting apply to the new duplicated policy?

Yes, any new backup policy created by duplicating a Data Lock-enabled policy will automatically inherit and have the Data Lock setting enabled.

6. Can I change the content rule and backup content of a backup set that has Data Lock enabled?

Yes. Data Lock does not impose any restrictions on modifying the content rules or the actual backup content. However, for audit and security purposes, alerts will be generated for any modifications made to either the backup content or the content rule.

7. Can I enable or disable the Long Term Retention (LTR) option, or edit the LTR values for a policy that has Data Lock enabled?

Yes, you have the flexibility to enable, disable, or modify the LTR configuration (e.g., retention periods) for a backup policy, even if Data Lock is enabled for that policy.
