Disable backup on virtual machines

By default, backup on a virtual machine is enabled, when the virtual machine is configured for backup. You can disable backup on a virtual machine at any point of time based on your requirement.

After disabling backups on the virtual machine, backups are suspended. Virtual machine is backed up only after you enable the backup on the virtual machine again.

πŸ“ Notes

  • The most recent recovery point cannot be deleted as long as the VM exists in the Management Console, regardless of whether the VM is marked as inactive or disabled.

  • The retention period would not be honored for the most recent recovery point when a VM is disabled. This allows you to restore the latest recovery point later if required.

Prerequisites

Virtual machine must be configured for backup. For more information, see Configure Virtual Machines for Backup.

Procedure

  1. Log on to the Management Console.

  2. select the workload from the Protect menu. Note that if the All Organizations menu is enabled, you have to first select an organization and then select the workload.

  3. In the left navigation pane, click Configured VMs.

  4. Search and select the virtual machines on the Configured VMs page for which you want to disable backups.

    β€‹πŸ“ Note
You can apply filters based on VM name, Host, or Admin Group.

  5. Click more options and then click Disable Backup.
