How to generate and collect HAR Log File (HTTP Archive Viewer) for troubleshooting

Overview

This article provides instructions on how to collect HAR (HTTP Archive Viewer) logs in Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox. HAR logs provide in-depth details of how the internet browser interacts with the website or web app you are using. If you are facing any issue that you think might be because of the browser, the HAR logs can help you dive deep and understand what part of the browser is causing the issue.

Collect HAR Logs in Google Chrome

  1. Press F12 (in Windows) or press Option+Command+I (on Mac) to open Developer Tools.Then click on the Network tab:

  1. Ensure that the Preserve log checkbox is selected.

  1. Refresh the page to start capturing the logs.

  2. Reproduce the issue.

  3. After reproducing the issue, press Ctrl+A (in Windows) or Command+A (in Mac) to select all entries in the log.

  4. Right-click (in Windows) or Ctrl+click (on Mac) within the network table; a context menu appears.

  5. Click Save all as HAR with content.

Collect HAR Logs in Firefox

  1. Open Network monitor by pressing Ctrl+Shift+E or F12 (in Windows) or Command + Option+Q (on Mac). Or click the WebDeveloper tab in the menu, and then click Network.

  1. Refresh the page to start capturing the logs.

  2. Reproduce the issue.

  3. After reproducing the issue, right-click (in Windows) or Ctrl+click (on Mac) within the network table; a context menu appears.

  4. Select Save All As HAR.
