Enabling Microsoft Power Platform Protection

Licensing

Power Platform licensing follows a per-user provisioning model. One Druva Power Platform backup license gives a user access to backup of Power BI, Power Apps, and Power Automate (when Power Automate is supported). Customers who have Power Platform enabled automatically receive Power Apps in addition to the previously released Power BI workload.

A license is consumed by any unique user who holds a creator role in a non-empty backed-up workspace or environment. The roles that count toward license consumption are:

  • Power BI workspaces:

    • Admin

    • Member

    • Contributor
      ​
      ​

  • Power Apps environments:

    • Environment Admin

    • Environment Maker

    • CoOwner

💡Definitions

Unique Power Platform User

  • If the user has create rights in only one app (Power BI or Power Apps), one license is consumed.

  • If the user has create rights in more than one app, still only one license is consumed.

Non-empty resources

  • A Power BI workspace is non-empty when it contains reports, dashboards, or semantic models.

  • A Power Apps environment is non-empty when it contains Power Apps applications.

📝NOTE: If a security group is assigned to a workspace or environment, each member of that security group counts individually toward the license consumption total. Druva's own security group is excluded from this count.

The consumption count is refreshed every 24 hours and is visible on the Account details page.

Activation

To enable protection for Microsoft Power Platform data, your Druva account must meet the following licensing requirements:

  • Required License: Enterprise or Elite license for Druva Cloud Platform.

  • Activation: This feature must be enabled for your instance. Contact Support or your Sales Representative to activate Power Platform data protection for your instance.

Prerequisites

Before beginning the installation in the Druva Console, ensure the following requirements are met:

Required Administrative Roles

  1. Microsoft 365 Global Administrator: Required to provide initial consent for API permissions.

    ​📝NOTE: Permissions can be revoked from the admin account after configuration, but the account must remain Active.

  2. Power BI Admin: Required for accessing the Power BI Admin Center during setup.

  3. Power Platform Administrator/Microsoft 365 Global Administrator (preferred): Required to discover and protect Power Apps environments.

Technical Requirements

  1. Microsoft Graph Permissions: The Druva Power Platform app requires specific Graph API permissions to install the app. These are granted during the app installation process. For details, see Permissions Required.

  2. Power BI prerequisites: Configure the required Microsoft settings outside the Druva console so the Druva service principal can discover Power BI workspaces and back up their content.

  3. Power Apps prerequisites: Complete the Power Apps Backup Prerequisite by registering an Admin Management Application with Microsoft Power Platform.
