Manage Microsoft 365 Teams

Updated today

Overview

This article explains how to manage Teams discovery, backup settings, as well as how to enable, disable, or delete Teams.

Discover Teams manually

Druva automatically discovers new Teams every 24 hours. To discover new Teams manually before the next scheduled discovery:

  1. Sign in to the Druva Cloud Platform Console.

  2. Navigate to Microsoft 365 > Teams.

  3. Click the Refresh icon.

Druva discovers Teams created after the last auto-discovery cycle and updates their status based on your configuration settings.

❗ IMPORTANT: For archived Teams, the archived icon may take a few minutes to appear after discovery.

πŸ’‘ TIP: When a Team is deleted from Microsoft 365, its App Status changes to Disabled in Druva. Discovery and scheduled backups are excluded in subsequent cycles, but you can still restore data for that Team.

Edit Default Backup Settings

By default, backup profiles for licensed Microsoft 365 Org Apps are provisioned automatically. The default Group profile is named Default Group Profile.

Enable backup for a Team

By default, configured Teams are enabled for backup. If you previously disabled backup for a Team, Druva retains existing restore points and you can re-enable protection at any time.

To enable backup for a disabled Team:

  1. Sign in to the Druva Cloud Platform Console.

  2. Navigate to Microsoft 365 > Teams > Configured Teams.

  3. Select the disabled Team.

  4. Click the three-dot menu and select Enable.

  5. Confirm the action.

Druva resumes backups for the Team according to the configured backup schedule.

❗ IMPORTANT: When you enable a Team for backup, the status of its Teams Metadata, Teams Conversation, and associated SharePoint Online site is updated automatically.

Disable backup for a Team

You can stop backups for specific Teams without deleting their backed-up data. When you disable backup for a Team, Druva stops subsequent backups but retains previously backed-up data for restore.

To disable backup for a Team:

  1. Sign in to the Druva Cloud Platform Console.

  2. Navigate to Microsoft 365 > Teams > Configured Teams.

  3. Select the Team you want to disable.

  4. Click the three-dot menu and select Disable.

  5. Confirm the action.

If a backup is in progress, Druva completes the current job and then disables backups for that Team.

❗ IMPORTANT: When you disable a Team for backup, the status of Teams Metadata, Teams Conversation, and the Teams SharePoint site is updated automatically.

πŸ’‘ TIP: If the Team is deleted from Microsoft 365, its App Status is set to Disabled in Druva, and it is excluded from future discovery and scheduled backups, but you can still restore the Team data.

Delete Teams

Deleting a Team from Druva stops all ongoing backup, restore, or download tasks and removes the protected data after the rollback window expires. You can delete Teams even if a backup is currently in progress.

To delete a Team:

  1. Sign in to the Druva Cloud Platform Console.

  2. Navigate to Microsoft 365 > Teams > Configured Teams.

  3. Select the Team you want to delete.

  4. Click the three-dot menu and select Delete.

  5. In the confirmation dialog, enter the reason for deletion (10–150 characters).

  6. Click Delete.

❗ IMPORTANT

  • When you delete a Team, all associated Teams Metadata, Teams Conversation, and Teams SharePoint site data is removed from Druva.

  • You cannot delete a Team if Data Lock is enabled.

  • The deletion reason is captured in the Admin Audit trail for auditing.

When you delete a configured Team, all associated SharePoint sites are also deleted; this does not apply to non-configured Teams. All backed-up data for the Team is temporarily retained and can be restored within a configurable rollback window, after which the Team and its data are permanently deleted. For more information, see Rollback Actions.

❗ IMPORTANT (Rollback Actions)

  • Rollback Actions requires the Security Essentials license and is currently available only for Public Cloud customers; contact Support to obtain this license.

  • You cannot roll back a Team if you delete it, then re-add the same Team (via auto-discovery or other methods) while the deleted instance still appears in Rollback Actions.

  • When you delete a Team, associated SharePoint sites are also deleted and rolled back along with the Team, but these sites are not listed separately on the Rollback Actions page.
