How to restore the data of a preserved user in inSync
Updated over a week ago

Overview

This article outlines how to restore and download data for preserved users. This information is useful when you need to access or review the data backed up for preserved users before deleting the user or device. For details on the distinction between preserved and deleted users, refer to Preserve, Enable, and Delete Users. For more information on preserved user licenses, see Preserve Users.

When a user is preserved, all their devices are automatically disabled. However, inSync retains the user's backed-up data according to the backup retention policy. Any snapshots that do not meet the retention policy criteria are automatically deleted. Nevertheless, inSync always retains the most recent backup snapshot of a device until the device itself is deleted.

❗ Important

If you want to preserve all the snapshots of the device after preserving the user, you must put that user on Legal Hold.

Users are preserved in inSync through one of the following methods:

  • Manual: The user is manually marked as preserved via the inSync Management Console.

  • AD/LDAP: The user is preserved as part of the AD/LDAP synchronization process.
