Configure Azure Files for backup

Updated yesterday

Step 1: Initial Setup and Policy Configuration

Before configuring Azure Files for protection, define a backup policy and retention settings.

Step 2: Create a Backup Set

To configure protection for your Azure Files shares, create a backup set (Druva's term for the protection configuration applied to a file share).

Step 1: Locate Shares and Initiate Setup

  1. Log in to the Management Console.

  2. Navigate to Enterprise Workloads > Azure.

  3. Select your preferred organization, then click Protect > Go to Azure.

  4. In the left pane, click All Subscriptions.

  5. Select the storage account(s) containing the shares you wish to protect, and then click Create Backup Set.

Note
You can select up to 10 file shares to configure simultaneously. A distinct backup set is created for each file share selected.

Step 2: Select File shares

Provide the following information on the Backup Set Details tab:

  1. File Share Selection: Review the list of selected File Share(s).

  2. Naming: You may provide custom names for the associated Backup Set Name(s).

πŸ“ Note

Do not use the following characters in a backup set name: | ? * : / \ " < > '

Step 3: Define the data scope (Folders and Files)

Define the data scope (Folders and Files) by providing the following steps on the Backup Content tab:

Field

Description

Folder Selection

Choose Backup All Folders or Backup Specific Folders by providing the path (e.g., <share_name>/<folder_name>).

Exclude Subfolders

Select to exclude specific subfolders. Use the absolute path (starts with /) or the directory name to exclude all matching paths across the share.

Files selection

Select whether to Exclude Files (specify what to skip) or Include only following Files (specify what to keep).

File Types/Extensions

Select predefined file types or enter custom file extensions (e.g., txt).

File Name Patterns

Enter file name patterns that must be excluded or included. Patterns must start with * (e.g., *report.pdf).

Step 4: Assign Backup Policy

  1. Select an existing Backup Policy or create a new one. For more information, see Configure backup policies and retention settings for Azure Files.

  2. Click Finish.

Next steps

You can manually back up the configured file shares by clicking the Backup Now button on the Storage Accounts (Files) > Backup Sets tab.
