Limitations and Considerations

The following limitations currently apply to the product:

  • We do not support backups of sys databases.

  • System database protection for Azure SQL Database instances is not supported.

  • System database protection for Azure SQL Managed Instance instances is not supported.

  • Azure SQL Databases with Change Data Capture (CDC) enabled are only supported on Standard S3 tiers or higher. Microsoft does not support CDC on Basic or Standard (S0–S2) service tiers. For these lower tiers, use Isolated Copy Protection instead.

  • Isolated Copy Protection is available for Azure SQL Database only.

  • Isolated Copy Protection supports daily Full Backups only.

  • The Isolated Copy Protection method does not provide Point-in-Time recovery

  • Hyperscale Service Tiers and Hyperscale Elastic Pools are not supported with Isolated Copy Protection.

  • The Isolated Copy Protection backup process utilizes ephemeral resources (DB copies and VMs) within your Azure tenant. These are subject to standard Azure pricing for the duration of the backup window.

  • We do not support the Hyperscale service tier for Azure SQL Databases and Azure Managed Instances.

  • We do not support Availability Group.

  • Cross-deployment restores are not supported, meaning you can only restore within the same resource type. For example, a backup from a managed instance can only be restored to another managed instance.

  • Backward compatibility on SQL servers is not supported. For example, you cannot restore from a SQL server version 22 to version 19.

  • Failover clusters are not supported.
