How to Reset MFA and Change the Device in Druva

Updated over a week ago

Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) is an essential security feature in Druva that requires users to verify their identity using an additional device, such as a smartphone. If you need to change the device used for MFA, this guide will walk you through resetting MFA and downloading the QR code in PDF format for future use.

Step 1: Reset the Multifactor Authentication of another administrator

In case, you have lost or forgotten your mobile device, or if your account is compromised, you can ask the Druva Cloud administrator to reset your Multifactor Authentication.

  1. In the left navigation, click Manage Administrators.

2. Click on the administrator name whose authentication you want to reset.

3. Click on the menu button next to Edit and click Reset Multifactor Authentication.

4. In the confirmation dialog, click Continue.

  • Authenticator App reset: For the first login after reset, reconfigure your App with your Druva account using the QR code displayed.

Step 2: Reconfigure MFA on the New Device

  1. Log in to Druva:

    • After the MFA reset, log in to the Druva Console with your credentials.

  2. Set Up MFA:

    • Follow the on-screen instructions to set up MFA.

    • You will be presented with a QR code.

3. Scan the QR Code:

  • Open your authenticator app on the new device (e.g., Google Authenticator or Microsoft Authenticator).

  • Scan the QR code provided on the screen.

4. Verify the Code:

  • Enter the verification code generated by the authenticator app.

Step 3: Download the QR Code as a PDF for Backup

To ensure you can recover your MFA setup in case of device loss, download the QR code as a PDF:

  1. On the MFA Setup Page:

    • Before scanning the QR code, look for an option to Download QR Code or Save as PDF.

  2. Save the File:

    • Click the download option.

    • Save the PDF file securely on your computer or an encrypted storage device.

  3. Secure the File:

    • Do not share the PDF or store it in an unsecured location.

    • If possible, password-protect the PDF file for added security.

Step 4: Test MFA Setup

  • Log out of Druva and log back in to ensure the new device is configured correctly for MFA.

  • Use the new device to generate the authentication code during login.

Best Practices for Managing MFA

  1. Secure Storage:

    • Store the QR code PDF and backup codes in a secure, encrypted location.

  2. Update Admins:

    • Inform administrators of any issues or changes to ensure smooth access to your account.

By following these steps, you can seamlessly reset your MFA, set it up on a new device, and securely download the QR code for future use in Druva. This ensures uninterrupted access and maintains the security of your account.
